AAGE WEIMAR, DENMARK, STERLING MODERNIST/BRUTALIST PENDANT

AAGE WEIMAR, who worked in Copenhagen from 1937 to 1966, made this modernist/brutalist pendant.  As far as I can tell, from looking about on the Web, this is a rare piece; his work is quite difficult to find  (which I, of course, find satisfying . . .).  What fascinates me is that Weimar created a classic pendant shape – rectangle with loop – but did it with molten, abstract, raw pieces of silver.  The effect is startling; the roughly wrought slabs of silver seem to move, as if they’re about to burst free of the frame.  The center strips arch up from the sides, giving it depth and movement. In my eyes, at least, this is not a passive piece of jewelry, and I’m finding that it rewards close viewing from all angles.

Measurements: 2” x 1 ½”, not including the generous loop at the top, which adds another 5/8”.  Weight: 1.045 troy oz on my digital scale.

Price:  $150.00.  Shipping, handling, and insurance will be an additional $5; please note that that applies only to addresses in the United States.  If you’re interested in this piece and live overseas, please contact me.  I will not ship abroad without insurance, which would add quite a bit to the price and is not available for some countries.  Please use a personal check or PayPal for payment.  I do prefer checks, to avoid the PayPal fee, but it will have to clear before I ship the pendant.  Thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoyed the view.

RARE JANE WIBERG, DENMARK, BRUTALIST STERLING BUCKLE/BLACK BELT

This is a belt buckle from designer Jane Wiberg of Denmark, who was active in Copenhagen from 1959-1983.

The buckle is a layered amalgam of elements in brutalist style, surrounding a beautiful striated black stone--some kind of agate? The black leather belt is unsigned and doesn't appear to be original to the buckle.

Size: Buckle measures 3 1/8" x 2" at widest points, the belt will fit 281/2" to 33 1/2"

Marks: Jane Wiberg, Sterling.

Condition: Buckle retains original patina and is in good vintage condition. The large ball shape at the bottom looks dinged, though that may have been intentional. The leather belt is in funky condition and worn, but not stained and perfectly wearable.

Price: $330.00

DANISH MODERN JACOB HULL HUGE ABSTRACT NECKLACE

Jacob Hull became famous in the early 1970s, when his work was exhibited internationally and was on sale in Illums Bolighus, the flagship retail outlet for Danish Design. He was a rolling stone, living around the country and also overseas (eg Finland). He was also a sculptor of some note, whose work was accepted at the annual Charlottenburg exhibition. Eventually he settled down on the peninsula of Djursland in Jutland, Denmark, and it was there he died in 1993, a victim of a fire at his house. He was saved from the blaze, but returned to rescue a vintage car, and did not emerge again.

Everything was hand-made at Hull's own workshop so these costume pieces are of very high quality and look more like sculptures rather than just jewelry.
Hull was very fussy about retaining his intellectual property rights, as his work was much copied. He insisted that everything leaving his workshop bore one of his stamps, J.HULL or Jacob, or Jacob Hull in script or etched initials, and it is thus likely that any unstamped piece was made without his knowledge or approval.

Hallmarks:
J. Hull in a square cartouche

Measures:
Pendant is 3 inches long and the circumference of the choker is just over
14 inches

Condition: Excellent!

Materials: Silver plated metal of some serious weight!

Price: $345.00

ELSE AND PAUL HUGHES STERLING CUFFLINKS

ELSE AND PAUL HUGHES made these handsome modernist sterling silver cuff links.  There's a terrific article right here on modernsilver -- http://www.modernsilver.com/hughesarticle.htm -- that can tell you all about their remarkable, lovely work, and you'll find a picture of this design featured there; satisfying!  The front plaque is 13/16" x 1/2", and is almost 3/16" deep.  I wish I could convey the depth, the three-dimensional aspect.  You can see more pictures at

Rare & Impressive Modernist Sterling Ring, Isaac Cohen, Sweden

This is a large and excitingly sculptural modernist ring designed by Isaac Cohen and originally sold in his shop, Galerie 22 in Stockholm (ICO was registered in the period 1963--1965 as Galerie 22.)

The ring has an interesting organic dome shape with a cave-like indentation. Quite an eye-catcher for the person who likes bold jewelry.

Size: band size 6 3/4, face of ring measures 1 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Marks: Top of ring is marked (on back): Crown on top of S for Stockholm, 925, Sterling, Three crown mark for Sweden. (See photo--it was difficult to get a good photo of this mark).

Band is marked SWEDEN, ICO (mark for Isaac Cohen, owner of Gallerie 22); town mark for Stockholm; 830, B10 for the year 1976

Condition: Very good vintage condition, the usual light surface scratches. Slightly tarnished it could take a brighter shine if buyer desires.

Vintage KALEVALA KORU PENDANT; Ancient Design; Silver Plate; FINLAND

The design of this vintage KALEVALA KORU PENDANT intrigued me no end, so I wrote to them (yes, they're still going strong in Finland) and asked about it.  They said this piece was in production around 1940 -1970 and "the model is from Suotniemi in Käkisalmi 1050 - 1150/1300 A.D. (during the time of crusades)."  Fantastic.  The pendant is so heavily silver-plated that the former owner said that it tested as sterling, but the lack of sterling hallmarks made me assume that it is actually silver plate, and that was confirmed by KK.  The solid center piece is 2 1/8" square, the dangles are 1 1/4" long, and the wrapped piece at the top, which connects to a wrapped ring, is about 1 3/16" long and just over 1/4" wide.  This pendant gleams beautifully, and as you can see, there are lots of raised features on it, all of which catch the light.  The chain, which has nicely patterned links, is 24" long and has no silver marks.  It's a stunning piece, and when I looked online, I couldn't find another one.  Enjoy!

Vintage DAVID-ANDERSEN Earrings; "SPRING"; Enameled Sterling w/GW

These lovely sterling silver DAVID-ANDERSEN EARRINGS are from the Four Seasons series designed for D-A by Thorbjorn Lie-Jorgensen in 1959, and they represent "Spring."  They're 7/8" x 9/16", and all of the silver that isn't enameled is covered in a lush gold plating.  If you look at the close-up, you'll see that the background of each section has been stamped with different patterns -- the more you look, the more there is to appreciate.  The earrings are in excellent condition, from the gold to the enameling to the springy clipbacks.  Thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoyed the view.

Price: $120.00  Buyer pays $5 shipping, handling, and insurance. Please use PayPal.

HANS HANSEN, DENMARK, STERLING & SMOKEY TOPAZ CUFFLINKS

Exquisite modern design cufflinks by Hans Hansen, Denmark. The stones are smoky topaz and simply beautiful, slightly rounded on top, and have a circular opening at that back so light shines through the stones--a stunning effect!

They are 9/16" square, the silver sides (which are almost 1/16" thick) are 1/4" high and the stone goes up almost 1/8" above the silver.  The little moat around the stones is just under 1/16" wide.  The stones are just under 3/8" square, they have the tiniest bit of a dome to them -- not totally flat -- and the corners are smoothed down, not sharp; no scratches on the top.

Price: $315.00 Buyer pays $6 shipping, handling, and insurance; you can use either a personal check or PayPal.

International buyer must use PayPal only, and I'll ship by Priority Mail International, fully insured, which will probably add about $25 to the price.
