William Spratling Sterling Cuff

Outstanding early Spratling cuff elegantly designed with a Pre Columbia weave design probably preceding the famous petate design. The design clearly reminds us that Spratling achieved a profound understanding of the Culture and the Country of Mexico. Most of his designs are appreciated for the aesthetic appeal and balance.

However, one must remember that appreciation and knowledge of the culture made his pieces unique and intensely bonded with the land and the people. The applied mark in the inside is hard to photograph. The inside of the cuff shows wear and marks consistent with age and continuous wear. The length of the cuff is 6" and the current gap is 1". It measures exactly 1" of width. COLLECTOR QUALITY

Oaxaca Coral and Silver Coin Necklace

This necklace is a very, very rare find., An authentic ethnographic piece from the Costa Chica in Oaxaca Mexico. These necklaces are know as COLLAR DE CUARENTA MONEDAS (forty coin necklace). However, it may start with forty coins but coins are added often and this one has 51 silver 10cent coins from Mexico. All coins are circulated and date from the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s. Most of these necklaces were sold for the silver coinage value and few survived. The piece is clearly not made for tourist but rather an authentic ceremonial necklace. MUSEUM QUALITY
