RARE Bjorn Weckstrom TRIBU sterling & acrylic necklace Lapponia
Finland
An outstanding piece by world-class jewelry designer Bjorn
Weckstrom.
According to Fred Rezazadeh, in his book Collectible Silver
Jewelry:
Weckstrom joined forces with Pekka Anttila, a fellow graduate of
the
Goldsmith School, in 1963 at the company that is now known as
Lapponia.
They developed many creative new lines of jewelry including
Space
Jewelry which combines silver and acrylic to create miniature
sculptures.
This line received world-wide attention when Yoko Ono wore a
silver and
acrylic ring on the Dick Cavett show. Another of Weckstrom's
designs (a
necklace) was worn by Princess Leia in Star Wars.
As stated by Mr. Rezazadeh: "Weckstrom is not just Finland's
best, but
also one of the world's most creative contemporary designers."
This fabulous necklace features a large moon-shaped pendant that
is half
matte sterling silver and half acrylic with embedded bubbles
that give
it an intriguing depth. The pendant is suspended from a series
of curved
acrylic cylinders with sterling end caps.
The piece is marked 925 inside a scales symbol, a crown in a
heart (for
domestic production), a trident mark for Lapponia, 925, M8
(which
indicates a date post 1977),and LAPPONIA.
The pendant measures 5 inches wide. The necklace measures 16
inches around.
Excellent original condition. A superb example of this world
class
designer's work.
$2800
